Since its birth, in 1878, on the grounds of Can Mangala annexed to the old “Carretera del Llobregat”, the Can Batlló enclosure and the Barrio de la Bordeta have evolved in parallel to the growth and transformation of the city of Barcelona. After a long evolution, which includes from the construction of the successive blocks with the rise of industrial activity, to the recent self-management of part of the enclosure, the will to open Can Batlló in Gran Vía and the surrounding neighborhood has been an urgent and priority reality.

The jury has designated the five finalist projects, all of them of Spanish studies, of the ideas competition for the construction of the new Museum of Prehistory and Archeology of Cantabria (MUPAC) to which 73 proposals have concurred.

The projects have been submitted by four joint ventures or companies and an architect. Three of them are domiciled in Madrid and two of Barcelona, ​​although in one of the latter is J.E. Cacicedo Estudios y Proyectos, based in the Cantabrian town of Medio Cudeyo.

Project for the reform, rehabilitation and expansion of the old Teatro de l'Artesà as a cultural center for the performing arts, with an Italian-style hall for 600 seats (audience, amphitheater, music pit and stage), multipurpose hall for 150 seats, rooms rehearsal, exhibition hall-hall, bar, offices, dressing rooms, services and warehouses. The proposal wants to reconcile the new architectural and functional requirements of a modern theater with the recognition and preservation of the heritage values ​​of the old theater and its surroundings.
