The School of Audiovisual Media will open its headquarters at the Can Batlló campus in September 2019

The EMAV will have more than 5,400 m², which will allow up to 600 students

Block 7 of the Can Batlló campus is now almost ready to become the future headquarters of the School of Audiovisual Media (EMAV) as of September. The rehabilitation works of this building have already been completed and this Saturday morning the Bordeta neighbors have been able to visit it, before the training activity begins.

More space to expand the training offer of the EMAV

 For more than 15 years, the board asked for a definitive location for the school. They affirmed that the building of the Laietana road, where the EMAV was installed so far, had remained small. With the transfer, the center will occupy more than 5,400 m². This fact will allow to extend the offer of studies in the audio-visual field and add specialization courses as well as cross-curricular spaces. This space gain will allow up to 600 students, while 425 students are currently enrolled. The next days there will be informative sessions in the same center aimed at future students, and the enrollment period will open from May 29 to June 5.

In the new facilities, which consist of three floors, there will be, besides offices and classrooms, a photography studio, a television set, a makeup room and changing rooms, editing rooms and radio shows. A room of events with capacity for near 300 people has also been habilitated that is designed so that it can also be used by the entities of the neighborhood.

A respectful rehabilitation with the industrial elements

The works, in which more than 12 million euros have been invested, have tried to respect the original state of the façade, in an industrial style. For example, the ornamentation of the cover has now been highlighted with zinc plates.

 The rehabilitation, however, has also made it possible to modernize the building. That's why photovoltaic panels and aerogeneration technology equipment for cold and heat have been incorporated to make it more efficient and sustainable.
